Unit Guiding Question

The question has been posed to you all:
To what degree should we be proud or ashamed of American society & government between 1880-1920.

Be sure to read my own comment posted at 4:45-ish!

Consider MULTIPLE aspects to the question: immigration, anti-immigration feelings, urban problems, contributions of the Progressives, the new innovations, and anything else that may help. (Don't focus on one idea!!)

If you're a real blawgphreak- you'll respond to another classmate's posts!

i think we should be proud because many inventions were made during 1880 and 1920.
but then again hiring children for coal minning isnt a good thing either..and by paying them under min. wage and putting their lifes up for a risk of dying...

Charlie, you've earned the new tag as blogphreak. More than 40 posts out of 124, and a bunch of them unfortunatly don't have much relevance to the topic that we're supposed to be discussing.

Anyways, at all points in history and in all cultures there are things to be ashamed of. Also, there are things to be proud of.
America had a rough start and still has rough things happening today. We can't ingore either the bad things or the good things that have happened in history.

We made innovations to print, cars, aviation, transportation, electricity, plumbing, and many other fields, even when we weren't allowing legal Chinese citizens to go to schools with caucasians in San Francisco.

I'd actually be a little ashamed at America's history. While it's not an awful history, the American people during this period seemed quite neglegent and didn't do much to prevent these things from happening. While you can't prevent things from happening all the time, people can realize what things are humane and inhumane.

There are many things that we Americans should be ashamed of, but there are also many things that should make us proud. Between 1880 and 1920, America became a house for immigrants and we should all be proud of that no matter what the consequences were.
